Maryland Moving Company Charging More than Quote or Estimate

Has a moving company charged you more for a move of your home within Maryland than provided in a written quote or estimate, or failed to provide you with a written estimate and then attempted to charge you much more than you expected? Please call the Law Offices of Joseph S. Mack for a free telephone consultation at (443) 423-0464 if so.

The Maryland Household Goods Movers Act requires, for moves from one home in Maryland to another home in Maryland, that a moving company must provide a written estimate to a consumer before performing a move. That written estimate must also clearly state whether the estimate is binding. If a Maryland moving company is doing any of the following things, please call us or fill out the form at the bottom of this page:

  • Moving company charging for a move without having provided a prior written estimate;
  • Moving company charging more for a move than quoted on an estimate that does not clearly state that it is non-binding; or
  • Moving company charging a lot more (more than 25% more) than a written quote or estimate for issues that came up during the move that the moving company controlled or should have foreseen.

The Law Offices of Joseph S. Mack may be able to represent you if any of those things happened for a move that happened between one home in Maryland and another home in Maryland, often on a fee-shifting basis, meaning that we wouldn’t need you to pay us to represent you. Please note that the Maryland Household Goods Movers Act only applies to moves that take place in Maryland; if the move was to or from another state or country, different rules apply.
